They were able to troubleshoot the problem with the well over the phone on our initial call and patiently waited as I eventually did a temporary fix. Does clear water mean my private well water is safe?

Not necessarily. Some water-quality concerns cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. Routine testing is the reliable way to check for those concerns.
